Incapability of repentance

This is perhaps the most frightening aspect about repentance.  You see, you cannot repent whenever YOU want to!  It’s like catching a wave.  If you launch yourself in front of the wave too soon, the wave washes over you.  If you move too late you also miss the wave.  Be sure to repent when God’s wave of repentance is moving over your life.  “TODAY if you will hear His voice, harden not your hearts…”

Hebrews 3:7,8 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you will hear His voice,  Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness…”

The crux of the matter is that when some people want to repent, they are unable to repent.  Just like the man at the Pool of  Bethesda.  When the water was stirred by the angel he wanted to move into the water, but he was unable.  So it is with repentance.
Unless assisted by God we are incapable of repenting.
