How to be made righteous

There are TWO IMPORTANT THINGS that we need to do in order for our sins to be placed on Jesus and for us to be rated as righteous by God.
1.  WE MUST CONFESS OUR SINS!
John 1:9 “If we CONFESS our sins, He is faithful and justto forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
To CONFESS our sins is to ADMIT our sins. Sometimes it is good to mention specific sins to God, but it is impossible for any person to remember every sin ever committed.  We should confess as the repentant man in Scripture that WE ARE SINNERS!  He simply said, “God be merciful to me A SINNER!” He was forgiven!
The moment we confess our sins, God sees them as transferred on to Jesus!
 2. WE MUST REPENT OF OUR SINS!
Luke 13:3  “I tell you, no; but unless you REPENT you will all likewise perish. verse 5  “I tell you, no; but unless you REPENT you will all likewise perish.”
To REPENT means a RIGHT-ABOUT-TURN! It is a total change of mind and attitude towards sin. It involves a decision in which we decide that by God’s grace we are turning our backs on sin and that we are will in the future line our lives up with the demands of God in His Word, the Bible. This decision we communicate to God by praying a simple but an authentic prayer, “God, I now repent of my sin!”
As we do this God rates our sin as transferred on to Jesus, Who alone can take away sin! In this way you HAVE DEALT with your sin problem! Your sins ARE forgiven!
Stop and say the following prayer:
“Thank you Jesus that you have taken my sin on Yourself! Thank you that You are the only One Who can take away sin. Thank you that because I have CONFESSED my sin and REPENTED of it, my sin is forgiven! Thank you that You now rate me as righteous. Your blood has washed away my sin and that by dying on the cross for me, You have paid the penalty for my sin. I can now say that I am forgiven. Amen”
It’s one thing for us to have dealt with our sin problem and to know that we have been forgiven, but it’s a completely different matter to live a life of victory over sin now that we have been forgiven. We will never be able to live this life of victory without the  Jesus living in us and giving us His power from within!
