Assurance of salvation

The next verse will be of encouragement to you, if you let the Holy Spirit clearly show you what it says!

John 1:12 “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name:

As you look at this verse of Scripture note that it says 2 important things:
[1] We need to RECEIVE HIM! – we need to ask Jesus to come and live in us! We do so by praying the prayer of salvation that was posted yesterday.
[2] Those who have received Jesus, have THE RIGHT TO SAY THEY ARE CHILDREN OF GOD!

John 1:12 (above) can be divided into three statements
1. “But as many as received Him,
2.  to them He gave the right to become children of God,
3.  even to those who believe in His name:”
If you reverse the order of these statements, the verse says the same thing. It would therefore be correct to say that “to believe in His name” means “to receive Him”.
People battle with the concept of believing in Jesus. They know they must but they don’t know HOW. This verse makes it clear that when we receive Jesus into our lives and accept that He has come to live in us, THAT IS WHAT IT MEANS TO BELIEVE.
If you have  taken the steps above, you should be able to say three important things:
1. My sins have been forgiven!
2. I have received Jesus and He now lives in me!
3. I can now say I am a child of God!
